The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race

The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race

The WA Cooke Group were proud to work with the Isle of Ely Rowing Club to support The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race on the 4th April this year.

The race has a deep history within the local area, originally founded in 1829 by students Charles Wordsworth (of Oxford) and Charles Merivale (of Cambridge) – Merivale went on to be the Dean of Ely Cathedral. The first race took place in 1829 and this year marks the 166th men’s race and 75th women’s race.

Usually held on The Thames, The Boat Race was moved to the River Great Ouse which runs past our Cambridgeshire site. The WA Cooke Group were able to assist by facilitating site access, secure on-site parking and further support to visitors and competitors throughout the event and training.
