Riversdale bridge turntable
Overview of Case Study
This bridge at Riversdale, Northwich provides a significant pedestrian short cut across the river, however occasional access to the marina for tall mast boats required a swing bridge.
Further Details Of Project
The rotating mechanism and tilt was detailed by Movetech UK and their expertise in heavy turntable design proved to be invaluable. W. A. Cooke & Sons fabricated and machined the heavy plate centre bearing fabrications and various pivot and mounting brackets. Because the opposite end to the centre bearing was seated firmly while in the closed position, to facilitate the rotating movement the bridge had to be tilted, such that the weight was removed from that seating, before actioning the slewing movement. The bridge was made to lift weights on the other side of the centre bearing, thus removing the weight on the free end. The heavy plate fabrications were welded to approved weld procedures by our qualified welders and Non-destructive tested appropriately for each type of joint.
