Dovestone Barriers
Overview of Case Study
Provision and installation of a safety barrier around the Dovestone Reservoir overflow chamber. As can be seen in the first photo, when the water is high enough to flow over the coping edge, it does so with some ferocity and the danger to children is very apparent. The barrier is also designed to withstand the impact of a floating tree branch/stump.
Further Details Of Project
When we were commissioned to provide a safety barrier around the Dovestone Reservoir overflow chamber, it appeared to be a straight-forward request. As can be seen from the first photograph, when the water is high enough to flow over the coping edge, it does so with some ferocity and the danger to children is very apparent.
The barrier is also designed to withstand the impact of a floating tree branch/stump. Although United Utilities lowered the water level by approximately 1.5m, it was still impossible to gain access via scaffolding, so we had to take measurements using a floating raft. The stainless steel barriers were manufactured in sections at our Manchester factory and delivered to site where our site installation team bolted adjacent panels together and anchored them to the concrete, again making use of the raft.
